How to find us
Situated on in Applecross on the west coast of the breathtaking Scottish Highlands. Shell Cottage sits in the quiet hamlet of Culduie in the south of the peninsula. Culduie is perhaps most famous for the setting of the Man Booker Prize short-listed book ‘His Bloody Project’ written by Graeme MacRae Burnet.

The cottage is accessed by driving over one of the highest and most spectacular mountain passes in Britain, the Bealach na Ba road (Pass of the Cattle), or along the scenic and meandering coast road from Shieldaig. Just 2 miles from the Applecross Inn and gorgeous Applecross Walled Garden the single-track road to Culduie winds past tiny villages, with glorious sea and mountain views at every turn.

From the East, Applecross is around two hours from Inverness where there is an airport, car hire, and train station. Edinburgh Airport and Glasgow Airports are around five hours away. From the West Coast, Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye are around one and a half hours away.

Out and about

There are numerous beautiful walks, by mountains, beaches, rivers, and lochans. It is a perfect place for wildlife enthusiasts and offers plenty of opportunities for keen photographers, artists and writers.

There are two beautiful coral beaches roughly a 45-minute walk away. As ocean-lovers, we can also assure those who enjoy kayaking, paddle-boarding, fishing and wild swimming that they will not be short of things to do! Also on your visit, make sure to keep an eye out for the Northern Lights (aurora borealis) on a clear and starry night. We are happy to share more tips and local knowledge, so don’t hesitate to ask!
